THE 32nd annual Champion of Champions tournament hosted at Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Golf Club (SAAS GCC) in Shah Alam turned out to be a competitive and successful event, just as expected. And when the counting was done Low Suck Sun emerged the men’s winner, Lim KianChong clinched the seniors’ title and young Angel Hii topped the ladies leaderboard.
The trio of Muhd Afzal Muhd Zubir of KRTU, Kota Permai’s Alan Chong Chek Fei and Loh Jun You from Nilai Springs all finished on three-over 75. Dr. Zalani Khuzaimah of UPM Padang Golf won the men’s nett prize with a 70.Lim, who secured a hat-trick with this year’s seniors victory, attributed his success to practice. A member of SAAS GCC and Glenmarie Golf & Country Club said: “Golf is a great game and it has taught me patience, just what I need in doing insurance work.” Kelab Golf Negara Subang (KGNS) champion Wong Hong Nung narrowly missed out in the seniors category. He lost by a stroke after carding a round of three-over-par 75.
Kamarulzaman Abu Saman from Danau Golf Club was third on countback from Lee Chock Khai (KRTU) and fifth-placed Eric Foo Hwa Peng of Saujana after each returned with a 78. The nett prize went to Calvin Wong Chin Tong of Ponderosa Golf & Country Club. He had a 69. Sarawak Golf Club’s rising star Angel said her parents were the greatest influence in her golf and added: “It was my dad who made me try out golf and I just loved it.
“He’s just great – encouraging me even when I don’t do well in competitions and feel down. I am very lucky,” she said. Datuk Azlina Abdul Aziz of Kota Permai was runner-up to Angel with an 81.Third place went to Dania Lau Sook Wan of Royal Selangor, while Tropicana’s Mychelle Tai pipped Fatimah Rosli of Impian Golf & Country Club for fourth after they both carded rounds of 87. Pat Lai Pik Chun from Glenmarie collected the nett prize with a 70.
The men’s longest drive prize went to Ruhanraj Vinadaga of Royal Pahang (258m). Dania Lau Sook Wan of Royal Selangor Golf Club won the ladies longest drive contest with 202 metres while Eric Foo took the seniors’ prize with 267m. The big draw card was a hole-in-one prize of a RM300,000 CK East Property voucher.
However, it went unclaimed as no-one managed the perfect shot. The title sponsor of the event was the CK East Group.
